Hereapos;s a player that is probably not as popular as the Zen Stone, but I
think is still worth a look. Itapos;s the Creative MuVo T100. I got it right
from the Creative Labs page, as they seemed to have a good deal on the thing
at some $34.95 or so and shipping. That special might be over by this time,
though.
This player comes in a 2 gig and a 4 gig version and it comes in several
colors, of course. I decided to go for 4 gigs and get a blue one, since Iapos;ve
mostly been buying my players in black when Iapos;ve had the option of a color.
This player seems to do everything the Zen Stone does far as what formats
itapos;ll play, so this means you can play MP3, WMA and Audible content on it,
at least a couple of the formats. It has no display, and it has the same
four-way control with the button in the middle like the Zen Stone. Itapos;s a
long, flat, thin little thing and reminds me of a small pack of gum, the
kind that might give you about five sticks of gum or so. The headphone jack
is at the top end and thereapos;s a cap at the other end that covers the USB
connector. Yep, no need for a cable, just plug the player right into your
computer and itapos;s all good. Battery life is said to be ten hours, but I have
yet to test it and since I donapos;t necessarily run something like this all
day, it may not be easy to tell.
The only difference between this and a Zen Stone far as controls go is they
do have a bass boost button. This is dedicated, so it does nothing else but
boost the bass. I think whatever bass boost circuit they use is a bit on the
wimpy side. My Sony MP3 Discman has better bass boost than this. You also
get, on the other edge of the player from the bass boost, the same slider
control as on a Zen Stone so you can successfully skip folders if you move
it one way or have everything randomized if you click it over all the way
to, well, itapos;d be the position towards the top of the player in this case.
The middle position is where youapos;d most want to listen to your audio,
though.
When I got mine, for some reason it would keep freezing up on me. Had to go
find a pin and find the reset hole and reset the player. Finally I just went
to Creativeapos;s site and did a firmware upgrade, and that fixed it.
All in all, this player is probably just as good as a Zen Stone. The added
plus is you get 4 gigs and not just two and it seems to have the same
functionality as the Zen Stone. The only cons are the lame bass boost and it
will only boast ten hours when the 2 gig Zen Stone with speaker boasts 20
hours of play on its battery. Iapos;m considering getting one more Zen Stone
with speaker for me and perhaps another one of these MuVo players, too. I
know the Ginger_Biscuit wants another Zen Stone, so she may get one for
Christmas this year.
