Frank Miller about it, and learned he's writing a graphic novel that takes place between Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea which is seen at the end of the film. There's a mere year in between waiting to be populated with new Spartan heroes (though David Wenham's lone survivor, Dilios, could return) by way of Miller's pen. Snyder promises to direct the adaptation when Miller finishes the book.
There's certainly historical material to draw from -- the time between Thermopylae and Plataea was marked by several battles -- the naval Battle of Artemisium, which occurred alongside Thermopylae, and the Battle of Salamis. Both were victories for the Greek states (although Artemisium could be argued to be a draw), but not without cost. Several Greek cities, including Athens, suffered severe Persian attacks.
But while the Greco-Persian Wars are ripe for many stories and movies, I don't see any of them fitting the hyper-stylized mold of the original graphic novel or the film. The insanity of it all worked because it had a legendary story and king to anchor it down, and shine through the blood-splatters and giant rhinos. Why water that down? As fond as I am of Snyder, Miller and violent boys in leather pants, I wish they would just let the Spartans lie.

Watching a visitor enter New York City for the first time has always been the equivalent of watching a deer in the headlights. The fast pace, noise and traffic just seem to startle my friends when we go into the controlled recklessness flowing through the streets of Manhattan. Growing up right near New York it has always been my playground, and perhaps something I took for granted as I was younger. There is no question in my mind New York is the best city and offers the most and best of whatever your desire be. If great food is your forte, well the best chefs thrive in the alleys, nightlife? The city has the best you will find and you will continue to find new hot clubs, concerts? almost every artist considers New York their favorite venue, sports? Come on the Yankees and the Mets The Giants and the Jets? Oh, and lets not forget New York Broadway Theater, the best musicals, plays and shows anywhere!
So with so much to do it is no wonder why friends become lost and a bit overwhelmed by New Yorks addicted charm, and if I was not there to guide them they would probably just sit in the car wondering where to go. Most people think a trip to New York is going to hit the wallet pretty hard, but believe it or not a great time can be had on a small budget if you are willing to go a bit off the beaten path.
My first recommendation would be a nice, safe and inexpensive place to stay. The going rate for an average hotel room in Manhattan is around 300.00, not chump change, especially when you are use to paying about 80.00 for a decent room. A couple important factors to take into account here, you want to be safe, you want a well lit area and you want to be near transportation. Lets not forget, you are a stranger in the largest city in the world, a dive in a questionable neighborhood is out of the question for a family vacation. So where in the world are we gonna find something which covers such bases? The New Yorker Hotel is my favorite place to stay, built in the 1930s the rooms have a very unique style and cost is in the 100.00 dollar range. Located near the Javis Center and Madison Square Garden you are in the heart of Manhattan entertainment. The location is close to Times Square and on top of everything you have the major connecting trains for cheap transportation to any location. Close to all the popular Theaters makes The New Yorker a great choice for Broadway junkies.
Now that we have cut the cost of your stay more then in half, what about eating? Dinner in New York must cost and arm and a leg. This is very true, if you want some of the finest cuisine from a five star restaurant you can easily head toward Central Park and eat at the touted Tavern On The Green, but if you are just looking for some great food at a reasonable price there is always a special to be found. The trick to eating great and keeping within budget is to travel a bit further from all the neon lights and tourist sections of the city. New Yorkers are very friendly and helpful, so asking a few questions of where to find great specials and happy hours can easily have you discovering hot happy hours with delicious half price appetizers and drinks. Barrow Street Ale House located in the West Village offers dollar fifty import drafts and a forty cent wing special, with a fun environment. The ale house may not be five star cuisine, but come on, buck fifty imports and hot wings in New York City? I cannot think of anything better I would rather do.
The perfect room, full stomach and couple drinks for under ten dollars and the night is becoming alive all of the sudden. The club scene maybe something you want to hop into for a while, the New York Deejays are the best in the world and the dancing is nothing short of spectacular. The New York nightlife provides many events as well, such as, hot sporting events like Yankee baseball, Knicks basketball and Rangers Ice Hockey, boxing at the Garden is always a popular venue. If sports are not your ticket, the music scene can host everything from a major band at Madison Square Garden to a hot local jam band at The Wetlands. Broadway Theater is one of the largest attractions for visitors, and for your first time in the city it would almost be a crime not to go and check out at least one show.
New York events can sometimes be difficult to get a ticket for, especially if it is last minute. These tips will help get you a ticket and try to save some money. The best bet is always to purchase direct from the box office, but if you missed the boat find a New York ticket broker, the tickets may cost twenty to thirty percent more, however, you will be able to choose your seat and be safe from scalping or fake tickets. An inexpensive way to get a great seat is to simply go to the will call of the venue and see if anyone has canceled last minute. Many times tickets are held for performers or stage hands and the individuals they invited were unable to attend, making a great seat available at face value last minute. Avoid scalpers in New York, they are to risky and more times then not you will pay a lot of money and never enter to see the show. Try a New York ticket broker before even thinking about buying from the risky streets of the city. The last tip for finding that hard to get ticket, hop online and find a forum dedicated to the show you want to see. For example if you want to go to a Broadway show such as Phantom Of The Opera and it is all sold out, post to a group that is dedicates to the show on Broadway and ask if anyone will be going with an extra ticket. Now you have just got a great seat at face value and made a new friend on your New York vacation.

Entrants were asked to use up to 60 seconds of time for their advertisement. make mrproper is a command in the Linux kernel build system, used to clean up all files from past builds and restore the build directory to its original clean state. The reason make mrproper is used instead of make mrclean is because Linus Torvalds, the father of Linux, was familiar with the name Mr. Proper as this is the brand widely known in Europe. Robin Freedman hasnt bought a cleaning product in five years. It doesnt mean her house is dirty. The Seattle mother makes her own homemade cleansers, using traditional combos as vinegar and water to clean her floors and bathroom. The reason: Freedman worries about the impact of chemicals in conventional products on her familys health and the environment. In Washington State, some hospitals and schools now clean only with non-chemical based products. In Massachusetts, proposed legislation would require those same non-toxic methods be mandatory for cleaning daycares, schools and other public buildings.
Im trying to be a conscientious parent and a conscientious consumer. A movement is afoot among consumers such as Ms. Freedman to change how people clean, what kinds of products they use and how transparent manufacturers should be about what is inside their products. Instead of worrying about germs and dirt, these consumers are concerned about the chemicals sprayed to rid their homes of germs and dirt.

Victim Impact Statement of Deborah K. Schlussel September 26, 2008
The Honorable Marianne O. Battani
United States District Court
for the Eastern District of Michigan
Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse
231 W. Lafayette Blvd, Room 277
Detroit, MI 48226
RE: Victim Impact Statement
United States of America v. Mohamad Fouad Abdallah
Case Number 2:08-cr-20223
Your Honor:
I am writing this in the hope that you will take this into account when you sentence Mohamad Fouad Abdallah for sending me death and rape threats to my e-mail address. I would like you to know how I have been negatively impacted and affected by Mr. Abadallah's actions. I am his victim and the object of his hate, Debbie Schlussel.
When I first opened the e-mail from Mr. Abdallah, I was shocked, outraged, and very afraid for my personal safety and that of my family members. That has not changed, to date. Mr. Abdallah's e-mail, in addition to featuring obscenities and vile language, threatened to rape me and blow me up and that I would soon die. He said he was doing this on behalf of Hezbollah, the terrorist group that murdered over 300 U.S. Marines and civilians in Beirut in 1983 and a hundred at the Jewish Community Center and Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the mid-1990s. It is also the group that is part of the Al-Qaeda network and partnered with Al-Qaeda in the Khobar Towers bombing. As you may know, Your Honor, Hezbollah has a huge cheerleading squad in the Detroit area, centered in Dearborn's and Dearborn Heights' Shi'ite Community. They need to be sent a message that this kind of behavior--the death and rape threats sent to me on behalf of the terrorist group by Mr. Abdallah--is completely unacceptable in the United States of America.
For over two years since I received his two e-mails, I have had horrible nightmares of having my residence broken into by the likes of Mr. Abdallah. I have woken up just as my mind was dreaming of masked men pulling out swords and getting ready to behead me--just like on the Al-Qaeda video of Daniel Pearl's murder-- or blow me up, and just like in the threats Mr. Abdallah sent me. That is a dream that haunts me now, constantly, since I've received Mohamad Fouad Abdallah's e-mails.
I have never met with nor have I ever had any contact with Mr. Abdallah, other than being the victim and recipient of his anti-Semitic, bigoted death and rape threats and hate. I never asked him to contact me, and I most certainly wish he had not. It would have saved me almost two years--so far--of nightmares and distress. Two years of headaches and anguish.
I am in a constant state of fear. My residence, which has several windows, has the shades drawn, day and night. I never get to see the sun shine in because I am afraid of snipers shooting at me. I constantly leave through back and side doors and time-consuming alternate routes and am constantly looking all around me on the rare occasions that I travel in and out of my residence. It is, as I said, a constant state of fear and hyper-awareness. And I have to limit my trips outside because I never know when someone like Mr. Abdallah or one of his associates will be looking for me. Any noise, any slight abnormal sound in the middle of the night keeps me up indefinitely because I never know if it is Mr. Abdallah or one of his friends, relatives, or allies. This will never change. Mr. Abdallah changed my life forever, for the worst.
I have had to tell my parents, including my elderly father who had a heart condition about these threats, for their personal safety as they were frequently in my presence. My father has since died of cancer, which he developed within a year of Mr. Abdallah's e-mail threats. He was not in such a condition before I told him of Mr. Abdallah's threats to my life and limb. Although there are many causes of deadly illnesses like cancer, stress like that which Mr. Abdallah has caused my family certainly contributed to the health condition of my father.
My grandparents, survived the Holocaust and Nazi-occupied Europe. My mother is an immigrant from that life, who was born in Bergen Belsen Camp in Germany. My family thought they left that life of hatred and violence against Jews behind. But now, with Mr. Abdallah uninvitedly entering our lives, we see that Nazism didn't die. It just took a new form and a new geographic location.
My experience with this whole disturbing episode that never ends has been extremely negative on the so-called "Justice" side, as well.
It is bad enough that I was a victim of Mr. Abdallah, but I was also victimized by the Justice Department. After I received Mr. Abdallah's rape and death threats, I immediately called the Detroit office of the FBI. Although agents did a swift investigation over two years ago, I was stonewalled by the Justice Department Office of Civil Rights, who took almost two years to "investigate" further, what was plain as day.
And the reason the Justice Department in Washington had to send lawyers here today, at taxpayer expense, is because a politically correct U.S. Attorney, Stephen Murphy—now one of your colleagues—did not want to upset the Islamic community. Is this what our “Justice” Department has become—an instrument of political correctness at the hands of the religion of the hijackers, the religion of the murderous beheaders of Daniel Pearl, the religion of Hezbollah mass murderers? My case would have died in the great American abyss, but for the fact that I spoke out about it on my website and in media forums. If I did not have a voice, Mr. Abdallah would remain without a criminal indictment, without a criminal record. During the over two years that I have waited for justice against Mr. Abdallah, I’ve watched an extremist imam, Hassan Qazwini, who is an open supporter of terrorism and proud friend of Hezbollah spiritual leader Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, get swift justice against two non-Muslim e-mailers who sent far more benign e-mails to him than that which Mr. Abdallah sent me. I read articles about how Mr. Qazwini's e-mailers had their homes raided by the FBI—one of them was a quadriplegic veteran—while Mr. Abdallah has been treated with kid gloves.
I watched and waited as the men who e-mailed extremist Imam Qazwini were swiftly indicted within weeks and pled guilty within months, while I had to whine and cajole and complain to deaf ears, finally getting justice years.
Mr. Abdallah, I am told, is Lebanese and I do not know of his citizenship or alien status. But I do know that he is Exhibit A that the so-called "Religion of Peace" is not so peaceful. We were told after the 9/11 attacks that those who committed them were "hijacking their religion," that this is not Islam. But, in my experience, based on Mr. Abdallah's actions, it seems that the religion is certainly populated by a disproportionate share of so-called "hijackers of a religion"--and far too many of them have one thing in common: their hatred for Jews and their desire to see them murdered—and first raped--by Hezbollah, as Mr. Abdallah quite expressly said he wants to see happen to me. He sent me that e-mail specifically because he is a Muslim and specifically because I am a Jew, as evidenced by his words in the e-mail, the reference to Hezbollah during the Israel-Hezbollah war of 2006 in its subject line, and the content of the e-mail.
Mr. Abdallah got my e-mail address from my well-read website. It was my public address. He wrote me to silence me, to get me to stop writing about Islamic terrorists and thugs like himself, who want to take away our First Amendment rights. It will not work. But since he has certainly instilled fear in me for the safety of myself and my friends and family, he has achieved part of his goal. He may have never contributed to funds for terrorism or planned a bombing—though he says he will blow me up and that I will die, after first being raped--but his e-mails to me are a different kind of terrorism. And we cannot tolerate it here in the United States of America.
Your Honor, Mr. Abdallah is not the type of citizen we want or need in the United States. He needs to be sent a message, as do all Muslims in our country and around the world: Third World bigotry and anti-Semitism is not acceptable on American soil. Islamic barbarism, like Hezbollah's wholesale murder of Americans and Jews—human beings—is not something to be cheered on and celebrated in our country. It is something to be condemned and punished to the fullest extent of the law. The same goes for Mr. Abdallah's threats to rape and blow me up and kill me. It is bad enough that he was allowed to plead to only a Misdemeanor, while the benign e-mailers to the Detroit Muslim extremist leader I cited earlier are now convicted felons. I guess when you are a Jew--as I am--and the perpetrator is a Muslim--as Mr. Abdallah is, equal punishment does not exist for the same crime. Now that he has pleaded to a Misdemeanor, please don't let Mr. Abdallah get off completely without a harsh punishment to fit his crime and the harm it has caused me and my family.
Today, I hope you send a message to Mohamad Fouad Abdallah, to his co-religionists, to the murderers of Americans and Jews in Hezbollah, to all who will learn of this case, that you strongly condemn his actions by sending him to prison and, if he is not a U.S. citizen, doing whatever is necessary so that our authorities at Citizenship and Immigration Services, at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and at the Executive Office of Immigration Review will all know that Mr. Abdallah is not the type of potential citizen who should be welcomed and remain free on American soil. Mr. Abdallah's continued freedom makes the rest of America--especially his expressed target of rape, explosions, and murder--extremely unsafe. With me, it was two e-mails he sent, with someone else--and apparently me--he may carry out his threats.
Thank you for your time in reading this statement and considering my plight. I hope you will sentence Mohamad Fouad Abdallah to at least a year in prison per the minimum mandatory sentence under the federal sentencing guidelines, if not a much harsher punishment.
Sincerely,
Deborah K.

The religious leaders of Christendom generally argue that using the name "Jehovah" when referring to Almighty God is incorrect. Hence, many of them are in the process of removing Jehovah from their Bible translations, and from their speeches, and recently from their song books, writings and worship as well. Yes, the major religions of Christendom have practically abandoned using a name for the Creator and contend that titles such as "Lord" or "God" are sufficient. From all this the average person who is unfamiliar with Biblical scholarship might conclude that there is no name for God, that the term "Jehovah" is an invention that has no basis in fact. So a fundamental question to ask now is: "Does God have a name?" Where would you go to find the answer to this question? If someone doubted that you had a name, would it not be the most logical thing to inquire of you? Yes, because you would be in the best position to answer, although it would seem to be a very foolish question to you since you had used your name all your life! In the same way it would be most logical to inquire of God himself as to whether he has a name. Where can we go to do this? To the record he inspired by his holy spirit, which record is the Holy Bible. In that Word of God it states, according to the Roman Catholic Douay version: "Our Father who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name." (Matt. 6:9) A more recent translation, the Revised Standard Version, states at Psalm 22:22: "I will tell of thy name to my brethren." The widely used King James Version renders Isaiah 12:4 this way: "And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted." The Catholic Knox translation of Jesus' words at John 17:6 says: "I have made thy name known." While there are many more scriptures from many more translations that could be quoted to show the same thing, must we not forcefully conclude from these samples that God has a name? All reasonable persons would have to acknowledge, Yes. But is that name "God" or "Lord"? No, for these are not names but titles, much as you might be called "Mister" or "Sir." That it is vital to know the name of God and to use it, God's own Word makes clear, for at Romans chapter 10, verse 13, which is a quotation from Joel chapter 2, verse 32, it states: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."Catholic Douay version. The evidence from God's Word is therefore conclusive that God indeed has a name and that it is important for life seekers to know it and to use it. Doubting that God has a name is much more foolish than doubting that you have a name.Jesus says in prayer to Jehovah at John 17:25 Righteous Father, the world has, indeed, not come to know you; but I have come to know you, and these have come to know that you sent me forth. 26 And I have made your NAME known to them and will make IT KNOWN, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in union with them." Should we listen to Jesus or Man.

'Angola 3' Black Panther conviction reversed after 35 years; attention now turns to 'Omaha Two' case
by Michael Richardson
U.S. District Court Judge James J. Brady in Baton Rouge, Louisiana has ordered the state to either free or retry Albert Woodfox after almost three dozen years in solitary confinement. Woodfox, tried with two other co-defendants, was convicted for the 1972 murder of prison guard Brent Miller at Angola Prison where Woodfox was serving a sentence for armed robbery.
After a controversial trial and an even more disputed second trial in 1998 when he was retried following appeal of his first conviction, Woodfox may see freedom from the infamous prison where he has been held in virtual isolation for over three decades.
Woodfox had been active in a prison chapter of the Black Panthers in racially-charged Angola Prison, a vast plantation-style penitentiary in rural Louisiana. Following conviction for the stabbing murder of Miller, a life sentence was imposed and Angola officials decided that for security reasons Woodfox and fellow Panther Herman Wallace would be held in solitary confinement. The 6' by 9' isolation cells would become home, night and day, for thirty-five years.
Magistrate Docia L. Dalby has described the punishment meted out to the two Panthers as, "durations so far beyond the pale that this court has not found anything even remotely comparable in the annals of American jurisprudence."
Judge Brady, after a careful review of the trial record and recommendation of Magistrate Judge Christine Noland, determined that Woodfox had not received a fair trial; that his attorney failed to adequately represent him; and that the state's chief witness, Hezekiah Brown, had gotten a reduced sentence for naming Woodfox. Further, exculpatory information about the physical evidence in the case, bloodstains, was withheld from the jury.
While Woodfox waits for a prosecutor's decision on his future, another Black Panther in the Nebraska State Penitentiary, Ed Poindexter, waits for a ruling from the Nebraska Supreme Court on his request for a new trial. Poindexter and fellow Panther activist Mondo we Langa (formerly David Rice) were convicted in April 1971 for the bombing murder of Omaha police officer Larry Minard.
Unlike Woodfox, who was an inmate at the time of his alleged crime, Poindexter and Langa were free and officers in the Nebraska Committee to Combat Fascism and were Omaha's most vocal police critics. On August 17, 1970, police were lured to a vacant house investigating a report of a woman screaming when a bomb killed Minard and injured seven other police officers. Within two days of the bombing, J. Edgar Hoover, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who had targeted the Black Panthers, ordered Ivan Willard Conrad, director of the FBI national crime laboratory to withhold information that was not favorable to the prosecution of Poindexter and Langa for Minard's murder.
Hoover was at war with the Black Panthers and secretly directed a clandestine "no holds barred" operation, code-named COINTELPRO, to put the group out of existence. Using illegal tactics, FBI agents engaged in a nationwide campaign that encouraged violence, planted evidence, withheld evidence, obtained false arrests, and took a host of other measures that would later be denounced by the U.S. Senate Select Committee to Study Government Operations commonly known as the Church Committee.
At question in the Minard killing was the identity of the unknown caller who made the emergency call to police headquarters. Hidden for years behind a secrecy stamp, Omaha Asst. Chief of Police Glen W. Gates, in a confidential COINTELPRO memo to Hoover, asked the FBI to abandon the search for the killer who made the call because it might "prejudice the police murder trial" against Poindexter and Langa.
Ultimately a 15 year-old, Duane Peak, confessed to the crime and claimed he made the phone call and that Poindexter and Langa put him up to the murder. Peak's story falls apart if someone else made the deadly call. The tape recording, which was withheld from the jury that convicted the two Panther leaders, did not sound like Peak but rather resonated with the voice of an older man.
The tape was destroyed by local authorities after the trial only to have a duplicate recording emerge years later. The duplicate tape was subjected to modern vocal analysis in 2006. Expert Tom Owens has testified that the voice on the tape is not that of Peak, thus leaving an unidentified accomplice on the loose.
Poindexter is seeking a new trial over the withheld evidence and the Nebraska Supreme Court hears oral arguments in the case this week. No date has been set for a decision. Poindexter and Langa are serving life sentences at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Both men deny any involvement in the crime.

I hate players who take it upon themselves to denote every dumb play at the poker table:
“Terrible play… donk… bad bluff… donk… stupid… donk”
First of all, get a new word. At this point, donk is a donkish term for bad play. Secondly, if there were no “donks” out there making stupid moves then the only way that any one would ever make money would be through being on the right side of cold decks. So don’t go hating on bad players because if it wasn’t for them, then your genius play would just be run-of-the-mill crap gambling gambling. It is in part because of the donkeys that poker is as profitable as it is.
Frankly, I’m sick and tired of people scaring perfectly bad players away and then being forced myself to sit in the brewing stew of super-tight-know-it-all-pot-odds-shackle d players. Life is too short to spend your time with judgmental tightwads.
So I’ve got a plan. It’s a small plan and kind of trivial, but it’s a start.
In the spirit of the many great acronyms that the internet has given birth to: lol, lmao, gg, gl, own, pwn, etc, I give you dBAD (pronounced dee – bad) which stands for “don’t be a douchebag.”
Say you are at a table and a guy calls two other all-ins holding pocket fives. Now the guy with the fives is obviously way behind and making a mathematically unsound decision – to say the least – when a six miraculously hits the turn, giving the idiot the winning Number of the Beast.
One guy who lost holding QQ forces out “nh” while two other uninvolved players limit their chat to “wow.” And then comes the inevitable attack from a guy who had nothing to do with the hand itself but cannot abide such behavior at the poker table… his poker table:
“For making a call like that you sure have a lot to learn about poker.” As true as that may be, what good does it do anyone to say that?
So what do you do?
“dBAD”
And even though that guy won’t get it the first time, our movement will grow. Like a revolution, dBAD will grow upon the fingertips of even-tempered poker players everywhere, shutting down the wannabe Matusows and Tony Gs with an acronym of defensive aggression and sleek musicality (seriously, doesn’t dee bad just sound cool?)
So if you are sick of whiny know-it-alls spewing their hateful advice wherever and whenever bad luck strikes at the poker table, join me in proclaiming loudly and in 3/4s caps lock glory:
dBAD.

Yep, though there is one basic set of rules as to how blackjack is played in all casinos, you can expect little variations that create sub-rules. Each casino may have its own set of sub-rules. Even more, each table – depending on the dealer – may also have its slight variations. That is why experts suggest that before you flop down at a table to play, take a look around and observe how the play the game first.
Expert Fredy Renzey has a very informative article on this topic. He has classified the way blackjack is played into three general types – typical blackjack, hand-held blackjack, and great blackjack. What are the differences?
Typical Blackjack: The most typical blackjack game will be dealt with a six-deck shoe and the dealer will stand on soft 17. Youll also be able to double down on split pairs, re-split them out to four hands and thats about it. With this setup, the house will have a 0.43% advantage over a proper basic strategy player.
Hand-held Blackjack: Since fewer decks are known to be better for the player, some casinos pull the wool over your eyes by offering a double-deck game with rules. If they hit soft 17, dont allow double after splits and restrict doubling down to hands of 10 or 11 only, the house has a 0.75% basic strategy advantage. As bad as this game is, youll probably find them packed with sheep who flock to play blackjack with only two decks but youll know better. Dont get sucked into games just because theyre double deck. Know the rules.
Great Blackjack: If you want to trim the house edge to the bone, places in Vegas like the Bellagio, Mirage and Treasure Island have double-deck games with the typical six deck rules (stand soft 17, double after split), which bring your basic strategy disadvantage down to 0.20%. This is about as good as it gets. Mandalay Bay and MGM have six-deck games with those same standard rules, plus you can re-split Aces out to four hands and you can Surrender. That starts you out at just a 0.27% disadvantage, another very good game.
Hope you find great blackjack the next time you go to a casino.

The main thing I do not like about the Nike Tiempos, are the laces on the front. All the new cleats have lace covers, or are even laceless! But the Tiempos have just normal, uncovered laces, and when taking quite a few shots, those laces can really effect some of them. For example, I was on the 18, and I decided to try and drill it from there. I put everything I had behind it, and boy did I hit it sweet. However, it hit the little ball of my shoelace that I had tied up, and it moved it ever so slightly which moved the ball off target. It might have been misfortune, or it might have been the cleats. Ill never know, but I do know that I would suggest the cleats for defenders, but for midfielders and strikers to buy covered lace cleats.

Yes, it is very late here on the east coast, but just finished watching the Red Sox go on to beat the Angels in Game 1 of the ALDS...I think some things never change. While the postseason is just out of the gates, I would to take a look back at the '08 regular season and see what teams are heading in the right direction and which teams took a step backwards this year...
AL East
Tampa Bay: Winners
Reasoning: Development of superb young talent, and a very talented young pitching staff
Bright Spot: Evan Longoria (.272 BA, 27 HRS, 85 RBI, .343 OPB)
Boston: Winners
Reasoning: Good mix of young and veteran talent, established pitching staff
Bright Spot: Jon Lester (16-6, 3.21 ERA, 152 Ks)
New York: Losers
Reasoning: Injuries and lack of effective starting pitching
Bright Spot: Mike Mussina (20-9, 3.37 ERA, 150 Ks)
Toronto: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of a potent offense
Bright Spot: Team ERA (3.49; best in AL)
Baltimore: Losers
Reasoning: Weak pitching staff
Bright Spot: Aubrey Huff (.304 BA, 32 HRS, 108 RBI, .360 OBP)
The AL East's breakdown comes with a stigma attached to it just because of the names in the league. Tampa Bay is this year's cinderella hoping that the ball goes all the way to the World Series. Boston is a winner for being able to manage major injury issues whilst still making the playoffs, and this is the exact opposite reason why the Yankees are losers. Toronto is in the loser category mainly for a team that was supposed to contend, but winds up fourth in its' own division, and Baltimore just needs to chuck the '08 season out the window and start over!
AL Central
Chicago: Winners
Reasoning: Power baseball (235 team HRS; 1st in AL)
Bright Spot: Carlos Quentin (.288 BA, 36 HRS, 100 RBI, .394 OBP)
Minnesota: Winners
Reasoning: Solid hitting
Bright Spot: Justin Morneau (.300 BA, 23 HRS, 129 RBI, .374 OBP)
Cleveland: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of offensive production
Bright Spot: Cliff Lee (22-3, 2.54 ERA, 170 Ks)
Kansas City: Winners
Reasoning: Developing young talent
Bright Spot: Joakim Soria (2-3, 1.60 ERA, 42 SVs, 66 Ks)
Detroit: Losers
Reasoning: Inefficient pitching staff
Bright Spot: Miguel Caberea (.292 BA, 37 HRS, 127 RBI, .349 OBP)
The AL Central didn't quite go as planned when the analysts looked at the league during spring training. This was supposed to be a race between Cleveland and Detroit, not Chicago and Minnesota. For that reason, Chicago and Minnesota both receive winners marks as this division needed more than 162 games to decide it between teams that weren't suppose to be there. It is for that same reason that Cleveland and Detroit get losers marks because they both had such high expectations for when the season started that when it actually started quickly fizzled away. Kansas City gets a winners mark because they are starting to develop some young talent, and they didn't finish in the AL Central basement (gotta start somewhere people!).
AL West
Los Angeles: Winners
Reasoning: Excellent pitching staff and good mix of young and veteran talent
Bright Spot: Francisco Rodriguez (2-3, 2.24 ERA, 62 SVs, 77 Ks)
Texas: Winners
Reasoning: Excellent hitting (.283 BA; 1st in AL)
Bright Spot: Josh Hamilton (.304 BA, 32 HRS, 130 RBI, .371 OBP)
Oakland: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of offensive production
Bright Spot: Justin Duchscherer (10-8, 2.54 ERA, 95 Ks)
Seattle: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of hitting and pitching
Bright Spot: Raul Ibanez (.293 BA, 23 HRS, 110 RBI, .358 OBP)
The AL West was good and decided long before the waning days in September. Los Angeles claims a winners mark by being the only team in baseball this year to earn the 100 win mark. Texas claims a winners mark with putting together a talented group of hitters that only with a little pitching help could become very dangerous in the American League. The A's receive the losers mark because most of their players couldn't hit the ball if it was off a tee. The Mariners earn the losers mark by claiming the title of worse American League team with a mark of 61-101.
NL East
Philadelphia: Winners
Reasoning: Power hitting and depth relief pitching
Bright Spot: Brad Lidge (2-0, 1.95 ERA, 41 SVs, 92 Ks)
New York: Losers
Reasoning: Poor bullpen production
Bright Spot: Johan Santana (16-7, 2.53 ERA, 206 Ks)
Florida: Winners
Reasoning: Power hitting (208 HRS, 2nd in NL)
Bright Spot: Ricky Nolasco (15-8, 3.52 ERA, 186 Ks)
Atlanta: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of depth at pitching, poor bullpen
Bright Spot: Chipper Jones (.364 BA, 22 HRS, 75 RBI, .470 OBP)
Washington: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of pitching and hitting
Bright Spot: Cristian Guzman (.316 BA, 9 HRS, 55 RBI, .345 OBP)
The NL East was again supposed to be going to the Metropolitians of New York, but for a second year Philly spoiled their claims to the crown. Philadelphia gets the nod for the winners designation for convincingly taking the NL East. The Mets of course, earn the losers mark for again crashing and burning not only for the division, but the wild card as well. Florida earns a winners mark because after seemingly losing their top pitcher and hitter they still manage to finish seven games above .500. Atlanta gets the losers rank because they were not able to sustain all the pitching woes, and if it wasn't for Chipper who knows how many games they would have lost. Finally, Washington gets the losers mark because they had the worse record in baseball this year with a 59-102 mark.
NL Central
Chicago: Winners
Reasoning: Solid hitting, good starting pitching, and depth in the bullpen
Bright Spot: Geovany Soto (.285 BA, 23 HRS, 86 RBI, .364 OBP)
Milwaukee: Winners
Reasoning: Solid hitting and good starting pitching
Bright Spot: C.C. Sabathia (11-2, 1.65 ERA, 128 Ks; whilst on Milwaukee)
Houston: Winners
Reasoning: Productive hitting
Bright Spot: Lance Berkman (.312 BA, 29 HRS, 106 RBI, .420 OBP)
St. Louis: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of starting pitching and an inefficient bullpen
Bright Spot: Ryan Ludwick (.299 BA, 37 HRS, 113 RBI, .375 OBP)
Cincinnati: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of offensive production and poor pitching depth
Bright Spot: Edinson Volquez (17-6, 3.21 ERA, 206 Ks)
Pittsburgh: Losers
Reasoning: Poor starting pitching and an nonproductive bullpen
Bright Spot: Nate McLouth (.276 BA, 26 HRS, 94 RBI, .356 OBP)
The NL Central was at times a four team race with Chicago, Milwaukee, Houston, and St. Louis all bidding to win the division. Chicago earns the winners mark for taking the NL Central crown by 7.5 games. Milwaukee also receives the nod of winners marks for edging the Mets and taking the wild card, and playing in the postseason for the first time since 1982. Houston also claims a winning outcome by their level of play at the end of the year. If they are able to play like that for much of the '09 season they will be extremely tough to beat. St. Louis garnishes the losers mark only because in recent memory it is hard to recall the Cardinals not near the top, let alone fourth in the division. By the way, Pujols wasn't the Bright Spot, only because even though he put up excellent numbers it has come to be expected of him, and for Ludwick to almost match his production slips him into that honor. Cincinnati has a losers rank because they have so much raw young talent, but they can't seem to find a way to harness it for a productive season. Pittsburgh earns the losers tag because not only were they bad, but what little they had at the beginning of the year they traded all away during the season.
NL West
Los Angeles: Winners
Reasoning: Excellent hitting and depth in the bullpen
Bright Spot: Manny Ramirez (.396 BA, 17 HRS, 53 RBI, .489 OBP; whilst on Los Angeles)
Arizona: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of offensive production
Bright Spot: Brandon Webb (22-7, 3.30 ERA, 183 Ks)
Colorado: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of starting pitching and an inefficient bullpen
Bright Spot: Matt Holliday (.321 BA, 25 HRS, 88 RBI, .409 OBP)
San Francisco: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of offensive production, lack of starting pitching, nonproductive bullpen
Bright Spot: Tim Lincecum (18-5, 2.62 ERA, 265 Ks)
San Diego: Losers
Reasoning: Lack of offensive production and lack of starting pitching
Bright Spot: Adrian Gonzalez (.279 BA, 36 HRS, 119 RBI, .361 OBP)
The NL West was by far the worse division in all of baseball, and was also the most disappointing in all of baseball. After the '07 season, which produced Arizona with the best record in the NL, Colorado and San Diego fighting in a one game playoff to make a trip to the postseason, and a Los Angeles team that was right in the playoff hunt until the very end, to have Manny Ramirez reviving the Dodgers and the rest of the league being just absolutely abyssmal?! Well, Los Angeles with the off the charts Manny Ramirez hitting machine gets the winners rank for a team finally stepping out of the ashes to claim the NL West. Arizona receives a losers mark because this team just had the bottom dropped out on them when the playoff push came into frame. Colorado has the losers brand because this team is essentially made up of the same cast of characters that went to the World Series last year. I was tempted to put San Francisco into the winners column because I knew they would be bad, but a team that has 90 losses needs a better excuse than just that! The San Diego Padres fall into the losing ranks because it seems the phantom tag at home in the one game playoff has haunted them their entire '08 season. Is this a new curse? For Padres sakes, let us hope that '09 dispells those rumors!
Well, if you made it through the whole thing congrats! As for me, I will be taking the rest of the week and weekend off most likely, but not to worry...my football outlook as well as a deeper October baseball look will be here within the next week of action.

Really, Sarah Palin's glasses are to die for -- and that might be true of her foreign policy credentials, too, but that's another story. We're here because essentially the NFL's first quarter is over as most teams have played four of their 16 games, so it's time to look at who the stars have been. And like every year, there are major surprises.
Let's get to it (with thanks to the marvelous Web site Footballguys.com for statistical assistance). Rankings are based on standard TD-and-yardage scoring systems:
Top Dozen Fantasy Quarterbacks
1. Jay Cutler, Denver 24.65 Ave. Fantasy points per game
2. Drew Brees, NO 23.95
3. Brett Favre, ERJ 23.05
4. Aaron Rodgers, GB 22.22
5. Kurt Warner, ARI 22.20
6. Philip Rivers, SD 22.07
7. Tony Romo, DAL 21.90
8. Eli Manning, ERG 19.73
9. Donovan McNabb, PHI 19.68
10. Matt Shaub, HOU 18.63
11. Jason Campbell, WAS 17.77
12. Jon Kitna, DET 17.27
Thoughts: Cutler is the Fantasy MVP for first quarter, especially considering how little attention he received in most drafts. Favre's 6 TD performance last week shot him up the list -- and amusing that he's one notch ahead of Rodgers. Eli Manning is No. 8, while Peyton Manning is 14th -- something we will address in Thursday's Fantasy Forecast in the printed newspaper.
Top Dozen Fantasy Running Backs
1. Ronnie Brown, MIA 18.90
2. Michael Turner, ATL 18.32
3. Marion Barber, DAL 17.73
4. Frank Gore, SF 17.63
5. Brian Westbrook, PHI 16.90
6. Adrian Peterson, MIN 16.30
7. Julius Jones, SEA 15.57
8. Reggie Bush, NO 15.50
9. Matt Forte, CHI 15.35
10. Larry Johnson, KC 15.18
11. Le'Ron McClain, BAL 14.97
12. Marshawn Lynch, BUF 14.90
Thoughts: Yeah, tell me that you foresaw Brown and Turner on top. But if we were scoring this with Point-Per-Reception rules, Bush would be No. 1 with his 31 catches. LaDainian Tomlinson just missed at No. 13 and will probably keep rising. Steven Jackson is No. 18, Joseph Addai is No. 20 and Brandon Jacobs is No. 25 among major disappointments.
Top Dozen Fantasy Wide Receivers
1. Brandon Marshall, DEN 18.90
2. Anquan Boldin, ARI 16.65
3. Santana Moss, WAS 15.70
4. Greg Jennings, GB 15.05
5. Larry Fitzgerald, ARI 13.38
6. Calvin Johnson, DET 13.20
7. Terrell Owens, DAL 12.88
8. Reggie Wayne, IND 12.43
9. Laveranues Coles, ERJ 12.43
10. Nate Burleson, SEA 12.00
11. Steve Smith, CAR 11.30
12. Chris Chambers, SD 10.90
Thoughts: SANTANA Moss is No. 3 and RANDY Moss No. 34 with 12 catches for 163 yards and 1 TD with 1 fumble lost (7.43 fantasy points per game). Of course, the Cutler-Marshall Connection is the Fantasy Story of September. And kudoes to Arizona for having two WRs in top five.
In the minor catagories, Jason Witten clearly is the No. 1 TE, John Carney and Matt Prater are far ahead of all other kickers, while it's impossible to evaluate defense/STs because seemingly no two Fantasy leagues have the same scoring rules. But you have to love Tennessee, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
Note: If you ask how any specific players are ranked, I'll be happy to let you know. And later today we'll look at Waiver Wire Wonders.

The Google Conversion Optimizer has been generating a considerable amount of buzz amongst AdWords advertisers. Google continues to lead the other search engines by providing their customers with tools designed to improve the performance of PPC campaigns. This new tool from Google is another step in the right direction; however, it is not for everybody. If you are unaware of exactly how the tool works and for whom it is best suited for, you could find that the Conversion Optimizer is really a Profit Killer. By reviewing the tool, reading the FAQ, and drilling into the answers that Google provides, you can really gain some insight into how the tool works. In addition, if you read the Success Stories, you will get a better understanding of whom the tool is best suited for. I have taken the liberty of dissecting the tool, the FAQ and the Success Stories so that you don't have to. The Tool:The name of the tool is a bit misleading. A true "Conversion Optimizer" would be an algorithm that determines the ideal bid price and ad position for your ads to produce the maximum amount of conversions for your given ad budget. Google's Conversion Optimizer works to get conversions at a desired cost-per-acquisition (CPA). These are two entirely different things. Google's Conversion Optimizer focuses on achieving a CPA that you set yourself. In order to do that, Google looks at each keyword's historic conversion rate and then at your desired CPA to set the appropriate bid price. For example, if you have a keyword that historically converts at 1% and you set a desired CPA of $10, Google would take your desired CPA of $10 and divide that by the number of people needed to historically convert (100) in order to set the appropriate bid ($.10). One of the problems with this method is that it ignores the position that your ad will receive. A bid price of $.10 may not be high enough to get your ad to appear on the first page of Google. Since 80% of internet users never go beyond the first page, your ad may not be seen often enough to convert as much as you would like. The basic limitation of the new tool is that the Conversion Optimizer focuses on achieving one metric (CPA) in spite of others that are far more important, such as profit, sales, and other conversion types. At the end of the day, the most important metric to any business is profit. If you are managing your online advertising or using a "conversion optimizer" that focuses on any metric but profit, you may be doing more harm than good. I worked with a client that had an ad agency that was focused on lowering his CPA. Week over week they showed this client how their CPA was dropping. The client thought this was great. Then, one day he dug into what was occurring. He looked at what his revenue was from his advertising in terms of total revenue, revenue per order, and profit per order. He realized that as his CPA got lower so did total revenue, revenue per order, and profit per order. He then realized that the goal of achieving a lower CPA did not achieve the goal of an increase in profit. The Conversion Optimizer, along with most other tools, calculates the CPA in an illogical manner. The Conversion Optimizer credits a keyword with a sale when it is the last keyword clicked on prior to a purchase. This allocation model completely ignores the keywords that might have been clicked on prior to the last keyword. Marketers all agree that it generally takes more than one keyword to generate a sale. Given that is the case, why do the tools only give credit to the very last keyword that was clicked? If more than one keyword was clicked prior to a purchase, shouldn't all of the keywords involved get some form of credit? This is what I call the Purchase Path. The Purchase Path looks at all of the keywords that led up to a sale and gives each keyword some form of credit. Therefore, each keyword gets some form of a CPA vs. just the very last keyword. This method gives a much more accurate picture of how your advertising is working and ensures that you are not turning off keywords that happen earlier in the buying cycle. If you do turn off keywords that typically occur at the beginning of the buying cycle, the keywords that typically occur at the end of the buying cycle will suffer. They will suffer because they will get fewer opportunities to close since the keywords that used to assist in their sales are no longer present. FAQ: Below you will find language taken directly from the FAQ Google posted on the Conversion Optimizer. I added several comments about each entry which show the limitation of the tool.Which AdWords features don't work with the Conversion Optimizer?- Position preference - Budget optimizer - Placement targeting - Advanced ad scheduling - Preferred cost bidding - Separate content bids- Multiple conversion types - Cannot use AdWords Editor- Cannot use AdWords APIBasically what Google is saying is that any feature that is used by a somewhat sophisticated advertiser cannot be used in conjunction with the Conversion Optimizer. How should I structure my campaign?Be sure your campaign contains ads for related products and services, and limit the number of ad groups in your campaign. Having fewer ad groups, each of which contains related ads, helps the Conversion Optimizer predict your conversion rate more accurately. Also, be aware that the Conversion Optimizer requires conversion history in order to predict an accurate conversion rate. For this reason, it's best to modify existing campaigns rather than creating a new campaign.Reading between the lines here again shows that this is not for sophisticated advertisers. Google recommends using this for small campaigns with only a few adgroups and a few keywords. It also cautions against creating new campaigns because the optimizer will not be able to optimize because there is no conversion data. How do I get more conversions in my account? To boost the conversions for one campaign, follow these tips. If you're interested in improving the overall conversion rate of your account, you may consider one or more of the following: - Opt in to the Google content network. - Add more keywords to your ad groups. - Increase your maximum CPA bid. - Change your ads or landing page to try to increase your CTR or conversion rate. My experience to date is that the content network reaches buyers earlier in the buying cycle. Content network ads do not do a great job of getting conversions immediately after they are clicked upon. Adding more keywords could improve conversions as long as they are better-targeted. It is true that if you raise your CPA or accept a lower conversion rate that you could achieve more conversions, but you must also make sure that the increased CPA still produces profit. Rewriting your ads to increase your CTR does not ensure more conversions, it ensures more clicks. The best recommendation that they give is to rework your landing page, which we have found to be effective for our clients.Case Studies:Just as I did with the FAQ, I pulled some quotes directly from the case study section of Google's site related to the Conversion Optimizer. As you will see, the quotes give great insight for whom the tool is best suited for. I added a few comments after each quote."With the Conversion Optimizer, we managed to get 600-plus conversions per day, instead of the usual 200. Also, I thought it wasn't possible to get below $0.60 CPA, but Conversion Optimizer managed to cut our costs down to $0.25 per conversion." - Moritz Daan, CEO WebgamicFirst of all, Webgamic is not an eTailer. When I visit their site, I cannot tell what constitutes a conversion. It seems as if a "conversion" is just a visitor. Lastly, Google had to go all the way to the Netherlands to find this case study?!?! "I have cut down my involvement with the content network from a very stressful mandatory daily session to a leisurely weekly session which I can skip if I want to. [Conversion Optimizer] algorithms take care of finding the [content network] gems and discarding the trash without my intervention. I really can't stress how powerful this is for a time-pressed small businessman." - Patrick McKenzie, CEO Bingo Card CreatorThe key line in this quote is "I really can't stress how powerful this is for a time-pressed small businessman." If you are too time-pressed to pay enough attention to your AdWords campaigns, then this tool might do a better job than you can do for yourself. If you are not a small business, then this is not the tool for you."The main advantage of the Conversion Optimizer is that you don't have to bid keyword by keyword."- Paolo Mardegan, Business Director for Neo NetworkAgain, the big advantage that is pointed out here is the time savings, which clearly indicates whom this tool is for; small businesses that are pressed for time.In closing, the Conversion Optimizer is not for serious advertisers. It is best suited for the small business that does not have the knowledge and/or time to dedicate to achieving the optimal performance. Lastly, an increase in conversions does not necessarily mean an increase in profit.
