The Glenbrook Racquet Club, home of the Herrmann Tennis Academy, hosted the Fall Boy's Championships October 3-5th. The event featured boys 12's, 16's and 18's.

Winnetka's Rob Stineman won the boy's 18's beating Tim Kopinski of Palos Hills 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the final.

In the boys' 16's third seeded Martin Redlicki topped HTA player Michael Sellitto 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3 in the last match of the tournament. Redlicki played four tiebreaks in his four matches.

Top seeded Brandon Wozniczka won all four matches in straight sets in route to taking the boys' 12 title. David Weller, playing in the 12's, won the tournament sportsmanship award.

My mouth is on FIRE! And I LOVE it!! It was worth it! It was so worth the creepy crazy old guy asking me creepy crazy old guy questions. It was worth letting his riffle though my bag. Don’t know why he kept looking over my shoulder though. Still don’t get why he kept asking me things like “So you really can’t see him…” And kept talking about magnets…I thought he was into peppers…not magnets. But crazy old men say what they want to say. I can’t wait until I’m old, so I can say crazy old man things too. Though…if you believe most the adults who know me, they say I’m not going to live to see 20, with the way I act. But whatever. Rather burn out than fade away.

And…it did sorta creep me out when he went all fortune teller on me and told me I had to watch out for myself on All Hallows. Chinen-sempai and I have plans for my birthday this year. He promised I didn’t have to stay locked up in my room to avoid all that stuff that scares me so much. Though I don’t know about the Lawn Gnoming of Hyoutai…Since I have a sort of acquaintance there now. I doubt Oshitari-kun would be too pleased with me if I did gnomes…So instead, I wonder if I can find any yard orbs… or maybe Flamingos…I might have to go and case the joint though. So I know where best to strike for the most notice/damage.

I don’t want to miss anything like that camp thingy everyone’s been talking about…but I don’t know if I’ll be going. Doubt Yamabuki will need it’s eternal secret weapon I doubt they’ll have any benches there for me to warm… It all depends. If one of my sempai asks me…or if Dan-kun asks…I’ll go. If not, I’ll stay back and hold down the fort. Someone’s got to.

Maybe I can use that time to my advantage.

People joke about kids making that statement when they go as a family on a trip. We left Monday on a trip and it was less than 30-minutes down the road when one of them asked the question. I thought this was way too early for a five-hour trip. It became an about every 20 minute routine for them. It was sort of cute, sorta. They did very well during the trip and the anticipation of it all kept them focused with joyful anticipating rather than sinning their brains out.
Grandpa said we could visit with them at Hilton Head for part of this week. This is their week at the condo. It’s always fun to go down and spend some time with them. They arrived on Saturday. We arrived just after noon on Monday. We’ll leave just after dinner late Wednesday afternoon. They will leave on Saturday.
The kids love the beach. They really love Hilton Head. It is not as much about tourist as families. The modesty issues that we run into at Myrtle are a bit too much. At Hilton Head there are more retired couples and parents with small children. There typically, in the weeks we have visited, haven’t been too many young, unmarried people on the beaches. And in October the crowds are very small.
Yesterday we walked to the beach, which was a 30-minute hike, with three kids, wagon load of implements and shoulder bags. I felt like I was pulling a sled. Today I noticed all four tires were flat on the wagon. I was pulling a sled. We went to the convenience store and bought some air. The wagon pulled amazingly well today.
Tonight for dinner we had what is becoming our annual beach birthday dinner for Tristen and Haydn. This is the third year in a row that we have celebrated their birthdays at Hilton Head. I think that is correct. Grandma made a birthday cake for them. Haydn placed five candles in one side and Tristen placed seven in the other side. We fired it up and sang our song and blew the candles out. Haydn got a “shooter” type rocket launcher kind of thing and some connect type contraption that makes scooters, planes, monsters and the like. Tristen got a very large coloring page of some Disney princesses. There were four of these giant-size things in her packet. She also got a painter’s easel type thing with paints and canvass and more. She was stoked.
Ansa, not to be left out, got a very soft kitty. It wasnt real, praise God! She didn’t seem to mind if she got something or not. Fortunately she’s not too materialistic at two years old. She was enjoying her sibling’s joy.
It has been a tiring day. We spent 6+ hours at the beach swimming, digging, running around and more. The kids are doing very well. They are behaving, not being selfish and being pretty much a delight. They bring me much joy. Lucia and I are sleeping very well and enjoying the sound of the ocean and the sunshine. It is very peaceful down here.
I met a lady yesterday at the Bargain Box. She has been married for 66 years, amazing. They retired in ’82. I was just getting going in ’82. She was very kind.

Oh yeah guys, I forgot to tell you my 3 awesome days at camp. Well, on September 15-17 I was at camp.I was really excited to go to camp, I just brought a camping bag and a sleeping bag. Many people brought a luggage but who cares. Anyway the drive was about an hour an a half, I got the bottom bunk cause everyone else took the top bunk, but it was still cool. The activities they had were Flying Fox, Archery, Rock Climbing, Horse Riding, Ropes Course, a Trampoline and Puzzles. On free time we can play table tennis, pool(billiards), basketball, volleyball, some ball games/activites we can play on the oval. Most of the staff members there were cool and quite humorous. The food there was delicious, and we also have supper at night. Nights out was at 10, but mostly my group sleep very late cause we were talking and someone was snoring. My favourite activity of all was archery and flying fox. In archery we had to shoot cans, tennis balls, brown foam in the tires, junk etc. If we had a clear shot in them we get a can of drink which i didn't get. On flying fox(zip-line) it was quite high but not scary. Overall, the camp was awesome.

August 15-17 nearly 150 students and staff went on our annual International Camp. With the Olympics being held in China a sporting Olympic theme was natural and certainly caught the imagination of the students! Using the colours of the Olympic Rings we studied the one source of true peace and harmony and challenged students to think about the purpose of their own lives 'What are you running for?'

Below are some testimonies from students and staff who attended the camp ...

Riam: (First year university student in Phitsanulok): "Even though I was born into a Christian family my relationship with God isn't that good. After returning from camp I knew that God's desire is that we have a good relationship with him. Now I am getting to know God better and growing in my relationship with Him. Thanks be to God for this camp".

Weew: (Fourth year university student in Phitsanulok): "I have lead Bible studies several times in our student cell group and know that this can be difficult and challenging but when I went to camp I saw the staff leading Bible study groups which included both Christians and those who are new to studying the Bible. I saw that this was even more difficult because you have to find the right words to help those who haven't studied the Bible before understand it easily. The blessing that I received from this camp was that I saw God working through the staff leading the Bible studies and I learnt how to teach the Bible to those who aren't Christians. I will be able to use these methods myself in the future".

Bom: a new-comer to the Nakhon Sawan youth house but a tennis partner of one of the Christian students here, came along to camp and was intrigued to read of the Bible's message. Since then he has come to the Youth House to join in an evangelistic bible study looking at who Jesus is, the church prayer meeting and music practice ... At the end of September he gave testimony to God's power to save him from sin! For Bom that has been a slow and gentle process of revelation and conviction by the Holy Spirit.

Pang: Pang (age 15) has been coming to the Lopburi Youth House regularly for 2 months now and has heard several testimonies, been to church several times, sat in on the weekly Bible Studies, and joined us all in singing worship songs. She was drawn to the Youth House because she could tell people here cared about her because we looked in her eyes when she talked. She told us of how alone she felt at home and school, and how her parents didn't seem to care about her. Slowly she has started see Christ's unconditional love for her. At the camp, she was able to clearly study the gospel message of our sin and separation from God, and Jesus' love for us and desire to have relationship with us. Pang chose to make Jesus her Saviour and to follow him whilst at the camp. Since then, she has taken her Bible to school everyday and been telling her friends why she has it. She even watched the entire Gospel of John video and read along in her Bible. Please keep her in your prayers that she will grow into spiritual maturity.

Nam: (High school student in Lopburi) Nam, age 17, has been a Christian for 2 years now, and has obvious leadership and fruit of Christ's work in her life. Through the witness of her life and the change in her life since becoming a christian, her mother is also a christian now. Nam was a Bible Study leader for the first time at the camp. She said it was a great experience and very challenging. She was so excited to be able to serve God in this way. Her group had 1 other Christian and 3 non-Christians. She said they asked many tough questions, but she was still glad to be their leader. Some students even thought she was staff because of her maturity.

Kareon: Kareon, a missionary who volunteered at the camp, said, "I loved the atmosphere at the camp, with people from many countries (USA, England, Taiwan, China, Netherlands, Singapore, Thailand etc.) and the wide variety of activities. The blessing I got is to have many chances to sit and talk with many Christian and Non-Christian students about faith".

Praise God for his work in the lives of students across Central Thailand.

Damn Freaking hell tired today!!!

On the first day of work(thursday), I keyed in 25 records into the database out of the 50 records due to missing data.

On the 2nd day of work(friday), I keyed in 34 records(I think)into the database out of the extra 50 records.

They will keep giving u 50 records to key in everyday. Zzz. Then at the start of a new day, We have to check if there is any typo error.

This is what happened...
On the first day, there is a lot of ppl not filling up their email add and home no. So I was unable to continue typing. Then the 2nd day, my supervisor Woon Che updated a document called the FC-list. So we can get the missing data there, if not we have to call to get the data from the respective ppl. My 25 records with missing data I have passed to Woon Che at the end of first day.

Then 2nd day, We were asked to check each other error. I found damn a lot of error that kelly keyed in. WALAO!!! then I ask Woon Che can just edit the error like this??? He said just write on the form itself where is the error. After we finish checking, he told us we can just edit the error like what I asked earlier on. WALAO!!! If I were to change the error while checking, I would have finish editing. Plus Kelly keying in a lot of typo error. There is a lot to change. So Woon Che told me to edit her error and my 3 typo error. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. DAMN ANGRY NOW.... Actually not angry just that when everything adds up together it is like wth...

While he tell me to do all this, he pass my 25 records with missing data to kelly and I dunno what he tell her la. But I think is ask her help me key in or tell me to key in after I finished editing the errors. After I edit the errors, I continued keying in my another 50 records(given daily). So after I type finish the 34 records, I thought I have nothing to do. I went to double check if I got typo error anot.

After the end of the day, Woon Che took the 25 records (missing data) from Kelly and passed to me. Ok!! I have alot of records to enter on monday... FINE!!!

Today, I checked what Kelly keys in again!! I think lesser mistakes but confirm got more than my 3 error previously. 5 Newcomers are here to help too. Then got 2 guys key in 50 records vv fast. I think I heard Woon Che say something about me vv slow... WTF!!! I keyed in 58 records today leh and I started keying in at 1pm while the newcomers started keying in at 11am. Extra 1 hour leh. The extra 1 hour, I think I can key in another 10 more lor.

And the stupid kelly (better not let her see this haha) When we key in the data we need to like so call sign our name to show that this record is I type de. Then in the end we need to compile the names together. I think got a few missing data in the records but she put her name on the list. make the whole thing damn confusing. Then When the no. of data and the no. of name shown on the list does not tally, she keep asking me y i did not verify my name on some of the records. Most of it is her fault la come and blame me for what. Zzz. She is fast but lack of accuracy.

I might look slow but I am counted to be processing at high speed with high accuracy. If not for pushing all the load to me and all the blames.....
Now got a lot of stress when working still deciding to chiong the whole thing done and show them I not slow or dun care about WTF they think about me. Woon Che told me dun need to be stress just try your best to reach the 50 aim. Cos it is possible to reach.

Now whose fault do u think it is??? Me, Woon Che or Kelly. Add them up together makes me super ANGRY. If for the first few things I ok with it de. kk time to sleep tmr still need to go work.

There are less than two weeks now until I officially start into my MBA program, which is as daunting as it is exciting. Recently I was speaking with someone going back to school after 3 years off and they were worried about getting in the mindset of studying all over again. All I can say is that I've been away from school a little longer!

The classes actually start after labor day here in Canada so there is still a bit of time to enjoy the last days of summer. Day One, we left the school on the bus around 10am and drove the 10-15km to Goolwa and visited the "barrage" where the Murray River empties into the sea. There is a big dam with a lock here to prevent the sea water from coming into the river. The river is SOOOO low due to the drought in the past year that it's more like mud flats than a river. It was sad to see the state of the river so bad that boats can no longer use that lock to go out to sea. Many boats are stranded in mud in the area since the water is so low. There has been alot of political rallying to get some of the locks upstream opened to get more water to the mouth area in Goolwa as the ecosystems are suffering and plants an animals are dying as their water habitats are dissapearing. We had read about it in the papers but I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. The Aboriginal worker from the school told us that when they built the bridge to Hindmarsh Island about 6-7 years ago, it was met with much resistance from the Aboriginal people. The government was told that if the bridge was built, then a curse would befall the river. Now they say this low river level and drought is the result of that curse. Could be.

We owe it to Shirley Chisholm, who first took the "white-male-only" sign off the White House, and to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who hung in there through ridicule and misogyny to win 18 million votes.But here is even better news: It won't work. This isn't the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need. Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about baking a new pie.Selecting Sarah Palin, who was touted all summer by Rush Limbaugh, is no way to attract most women, including die-hard Clinton supporters. Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Clinton. The difference is that McCain is filling a job one 72-year-old heartbeat away from the presidency.So let's be clear: The culprit is John McCain. He may have chosen Palin out of change-envy, or a belief that women can't tell the difference between form and content, but the main motive was to please right-wing ideologues; the same ones who nixed anyone who is now or ever has been a supporter of reproductive freedom. If that were not the case, McCain could have chosen a woman who knows what a vice president does and who has thought about Iraq; someone like Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison or Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine. McCain could have taken a baby step away from right-wing patriarchs who determine his actions, right down to opposing the Violence Against Women Act.Palin's value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports government control of women's wombs; she opposes stem cell research but approves "abstinence-only" programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; she tried to use taxpayers' millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air but didn't spend enough money to fix a state school system with the lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.I don't doubt her sincerity. As a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assn., she doesn't just support killing animals from helicopters, she does it herself. She doesn't just talk about increasing the use of fossil fuels but puts a coal-burning power plant in her own small town. She doesn't just echo McCain's pledge to criminalize abortion by overturning Roe vs. Wade, she says that if one of her daughters were impregnated by rape or incest, she should bear the child. At Nine you get a bicycle. Only at that age should you get a bicycle. Your clothes are upgraded with special pockets to fit certain things, such as a calculator, but I forgot what age that comes in. As an Eight you must have a certain hours of volunteer work. Twelve is one of the most important part of all. After that age doesnt matter. Twelve receive their Assignments; their careers for life. The Elders determine this by observing you and your volunteer hours. Jonas father spent most of his volunteer hours at the Nurturing Centre and was given the assignment of a Nurturer; taking care of newborn children.The Elders never got it wrong when choosing your partner and your career. One day Jonas says that he had a wet dream (didnt actually say wet dream, just told his story) and he was given a pill for it. See how they have no affection towards one another, and can resist the urge to not make babies with each other?
Jonas is nervous about his assignment because he has no idea what hes going to be. On the day of the Ceremony of Twelves, they skip his number! (Their full names are numbers. He is Eleven Twenty. He will become Twelve Twenty soon.) They made a mistake! At the end the Chief Elder explains that Jonas has become the Receiver of Memory, which is the greatest Assignment of all. It holds great honour and wisdom. He thinks, what is this Receiver of Memory? I dont know Jonas. Hurry and just tell me already Lois Lowry. His assignment will change his life and thinking forever.

Unlike other assignments, there is only one Receiver. He is the new one. The former Receiver is now called the Giver because he is giving memories to Jonas, the Receiver. These things include, riding through snow on a sleigh. Jonas had never had snow. The community has had Sameness for a long, long, long, long, long, long, long time. Really long. Its like ancient history when there were seasons, and sleigh. Jonas also receives the memory of colour. Thats right, no one can see colour but Jonas and the Giver! I didnt know this. He kept talking about the apple changing for an instant, that is because he saw the colour red for the first time. Why no colour? Its so beautiful. He also receives the memory of sunlight. Yes, sunlight! There is no sun or something. I cant imagine it. I really cant. With sunlight the Giver gives him the memory of a sunburnt, and he feels it. When the Giver transfers the memory to Jonas, the Giver no longer has it. He gave one memory of a sailboat so he no longer has it, but he has plently of other memories about sailing in a sailboat. There is a lot of pain involed as Jonas must go through the experience of war, watching someone die in war, being injured, being seriously ill . . . its all so much and very hard for Jonas to take.
Near the end, Jonas learns the feeling of love. He loves this feeling. He stops taking his pills and feels a little guilty for the pleasure of his dreams. His father is a Nurturer as stated before, and he says he must release newborn children when they are unfit  for their community. This involves just the children being comfortable and being released into a new community. No worries right? So they find out that a birth mother had twins and they cant have two identical people wandering around. Its too confusing. So they must release one. Jonas (hes the high and mighty Receiver and can watch anything private whenever he wants) finds out that his father has been lying to him all this time. Releasing people meant killing them! His father just killed one of the twins! It was so sad I thought I was going to cry. The saddest thing I ever had to read.
Jonas is very upset and doesnt want to go home. The Giver says that only they have feelings. After much complaints and discussion the Giver decides to make a plan for the community to change. They cant live in a life without love and memories.
I wont tell you how, but Jonas manages to escape. Thank God. It was the travel that was the hardest. He has some company along with him on the ride but I wont tell you who. It ends with him finding a small area beneath the snowy hill far, far away where there is love, family, and friends.
What a wonderful story. Superb! Honestly though, it took a while for me to get into. The start dragged on for so long until the ceremony finally started. The other half of the book was definitely worth it.
I hope Jonas found a nice family to take care of him and grew up into a wonderful man. I wonder what his career would be. Something to do with books? Art? Children?
